Assault victim hospitalized

A man reported to have been severely beaten early today was in critical condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

Toledo police and emergency medical crews were called to the 900 block of Buckingham Street in the central city about 2:15 a.m. The victim, identified by police as Anthony Horton, was taken to the hospital by Life Squad as a trauma case.

Police are investigating the incident as a felonious assault. 

At about 4:20 a.m. Saturday, a person was shot in the 500 block of Nevada Street in East Toledo. Police identified the victim as Hakeem Johnson. A Mercy St. Vincent spokesman said he was still being evaluated Saturday afternoon and no condition was listed.

Police also are investigating two shootings from Friday afternoon -- that of a 13-year-old boy about 4 p.m. at Chestnut and Noble streets in North Toledo and of a man about 25 minutes later at Franklin Street and Woodruff Avenue near downtown. The man, whom police identified as Tyrell Jones, was in fair condition Saturday at Mercy St. Vincent.
