8 shootings in city during weekend include boy, 13

Eight people, including a 13-year-old boy, were shot in Toledo from Friday through Sunday, in incidents that all appear to be unrelated, police said.

Two people were arrested and charged with shootings Sunday. Donte Evans, 19, of 1772 Grand Ave. and William Black, 33, of 2014 Alvin St. were arraigned Monday in Toledo Municipal Court and were ordered to remain in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond. They are each charged with one count of felonious assault.

Evans is accused of shooting Jesslyn Finn, 20, at Club Status, 3122 Airport Hwy., at 2:43 a.m. Sunday. Ms. Finn was shot in her neck, police said. She was taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio, for treatment. On Monday, she was listed in fair condition.

On Feb. 16, Lamar Booker, 23, was shot dead outside of Club Status. His death remains unsolved.

Mr. Black is accused of shooting Kenneth Conley, 33, in the abdomen at 9:27 p.m. Sunday in the 2200 block of Alvin, which is off of West Bancroft Street, between St. Francis de Sales High School and the University of Toledo.

Police allege that Mr. Conley was trying to take something from a vehicle parked in Mr. Black’s driveway when Mr. Black came outside and confronted Mr. Conley, ordering him to the ground at gunpoint. Mr. Black shot Mr. Conley in left side of his torso and Mr. Conley fled. He was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital for treatment. Police said the injury was nonlife threatening, but the victim was being held overnight because of an “improper placement”of an IV. He was released Monday.

Three people were shot at 722 Belmont Ave. about 8:45 p.m. Sunday. Wounded were Johnathan Williams, 21; Alton Reid, Jr., 21; and Floyd Rockett, whose age was unavailable.

Mr. Williams was found on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his neck. Mr. Rockett, who police described as handicapped, was grazed by a bullet while sitting inside a vehicle. Mr. Reid was also found on the ground with a bullet wound to a leg. All three victims were taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment. Police reported finding 14 shell casings at the scene. A hospital spokesman had no information about Mr. Williams’ condition; Mr. Reid was discharged Monday; Mr. Floyd was treated and released.

At 4:20 a.m. Saturday Hakeem Johnson, 19, was at a house party at 505 Nevada St., in East Toledo, when he was shot in a leg during an argument. He was taken to Mercy St. Charles Hospital where he was treated and released, a spokesman said.

Two people were shot Friday, including 13-year-old Kevondre Walton, who was shot in his left thigh at Chestnut and Noble streets in North Toledo at 4 p.m. He was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center where he was treated and released. At 4:29 p.m. Friday, Tyrell Jones, 20, was shot in his left knee at Franklin and East Woodruff avenues. He was also taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and he was discharged Sunday.
