9 officers, and a K-9, promoted by Toledo Police

Officer C.J Bryce is the first female Toledo Police Department patrol officer to wear badge No. 1.

Nine Toledo police officers — and a police K-9 — were promoted today.

Promoted from lieutenant to captain were Ronald Frederick and Cheryl Hunt; promoted from sergeant to lieutenant were Jessica Meyer and Kevin Braun; and promoted from officer to sergeant were John Noonan, William Windnagle, Reuben Jurva, Joseph Taylor, and Allana Whatmore.

The furriest, cutest, and youngest-ever promotee was Joker, a 2-year-old German Shepherd who is Sgt. Taylor‘s partner. Joker was given his sergeant stripes and promptly thanked police Chief William Moton with a wet kiss on the lips.‍

“That‘s the first time the chief of police has ever been kissed during a promotional ceremony,” said Deputy Chief George Kral.

Toledo police Officer Cherie Bryce received today what she called “the best honor for the best job in the world” when she was awarded badge No. 1. The badge signifies that she is the most senior officer on the department. She is the first female patrolman to receive badge No. 1.

Officer Bryce, 60, who previously wore badge No. 5, was hired in July, 1982. She currently works out of the Northwest District Station in the traffic bureau.
