After  several years of raising scholarship money to educate future police officers, an organization has announced fund-raising efforts are completed.

An endowment fund was created in honor of Toledo Police Officer William Miscannon, who died Sept. 18, 1970, and Detective Keith Dressel, who died Feb. 21, 2007. Both died in the line of duty.

Following discussions with both families, leaders decided to end the KDMR organization, according to a news release.

The organization accomplished its goals in forming the endowment and providing it with money to be sustainable far into the future, the release said.

The two fallen officers were the driving force behind the KDMR Charity Organization, which was formed to honor the memory of the officers and provide an opportunity to others who wanted to become an officer.

Toledo Police Detective Bonnie Weis and Oregon Police Officer Sara Shaw started the endowment fund with Owens Community College.

Two main events — the Keith Dressel Memorial Motorcycle Ride and the Hooter’s Memorial Buffet and Raffle — along with sponsors and donations built the scholarship fund. The charity raised more than $100,000, and the fund will provide scholarships to students who go through the law enforcement program at Owens Community College.
