BOWLING GREEN — The Wood County Republican Party is accepting applications for Tim Brown’s seat on the Board of County Commissioners.

Mr. Brown, 50, was elected in November to represent the county in the Ohio House’s 3rd District. He was named a county commissioner in 1997 by the Wood County GOP to complete Bob Latta’s term after Mr. Latta was elected to the Ohio Senate.

Wood County GOP chairman Matt Reger said the only applicant so far is Doris Herringshaw.

By law, the party must make the appointment five to 45 days after the vacancy occurs.

Ms. Herringshaw, who retired last year from the Ohio State University Extension Service, was the top vote-getter in a five-way Republican primary for commissioner in March, but she was defeated in November by Democrat Joel Kuhlman.

The appointment is decided by the party’s 60-member central committee. A meeting to select Mr. Brown’s successor tentatively is set for Jan. 10.

Republicans interested in the post should contact Mr. Reger at matthew.reger@yahoo.com or 419-575-9841.

An open house in honor of Mr. Brown will be 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 19 in the fifth-floor lobby of the courthouse complex.
