WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo) landed a lead subcommittee post on the House Appropriations Committee in leadership, her office announced today.

Miss Kaptur will be the ranking Democrat on the Energy and Water Subcommittee, spokesman Steve Fought said.

Her election by the House Democratic leadership came a month after she lost a contest with U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey (D., New York) to take over the top Democratic seat on the House Appropriations Committee.

She said the committee overseeing federal appropriations relating to water is the best way for her to serve the recently re-drawn 9th Congressional District, which stretches along the Lake Erie coast from Cleveland to Toledo. Miss Kaptur cited renewable energy initiatives, the need for dredging Lake Erie ports, and university research through the Department of Energy.
