The Internal Revenue Service is seeking volunteers to help low-income families and seniors in the Toledo area prepare and file their federal income taxes.

In 2013, the IRS partnered with the Greater Toledo Tax Credit Coalition and the Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union to provide 12 free tax help sites in Lucas and Ottawa counties. Volunteers prepared and filed more than 2,950 tax returns.

The training and certification process takes 16-20 hours. Most training takes place in November and December. Because tax laws change each year, returning volunteers must undergo training and recertification.

Prospective volunteers can call (419) 213-4855 for information. Information can be found at www.IRS.gov.
