Rossford City Council choose new member

Rossford City Council members today chose a former Rossford school board member and local business owner as its new council member.

Joseph Minarcin was appointed by a vote of 5-1 to fill a seat left vacant by the recent death of Chuck Duricek. Council voted four times before they were able to get the majority votes needed to appoint someone.

Five candidates, including Mr. Minarcin, applied for the position, and were questioned for about 90 minutes by council members at a special meeting Monday. Council then went into executive sesson for about an hour before emerging and taking the votes.

Council member Jerry Staczek voted against Mr. Minarcin's appointment. He preferred candidate William Carroll, chairman of the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority.

The other candidates were Bob Densic, Pamela Domalski-Duricek and Dennis Foy.

Mr. Minarcin, a retiree of the Rossford Board of Education in 2009 after 16 years, and owner of Moe's Place Bar and Restaurant, will hold the seat for two years.

Mr. Duricek, a veteran council member, died unexpectedly in Chicago on Thanksgiving Day. He was the top vote-getter in the Nov. 5 election.
