COLUMBUS—State Sen. Edna Brown (D., Toledo) was sworn in Tuesday as the third highest-ranking Democrat in the Republican-controlled Senate.
Democrats, outnumbered 23 to 10, shook up their leadership going into the new year. Ms. Brown’s position as minority whip marks a promotion from her prior post as assistant minority whip.
Sen. Joe Schiavoni (D., Youngstown) moved up a spot to minority leader. Sen. Charleta Tavares (D., Columbus) became assistant minority leader. Sen. Lou Gentile (D., Steubenville) took Ms. Brown’s old slot of assistant minority whip.
