Three people have filed as candidates for the 56th Michigan House District. The most recent, Lambertville resident Tom Redmond, plans to make his formal announcement at 3 p.m. Thursday at Sidelines Sports Eatery and Pub, 8116 Secor Rd., in Lambertville.

The filing deadline is April 22. Mr. Redmond, a retired Monroe County sheriff’s deputy, part-time Dundee police officer, and unsuccessful candidate for sheriff, is the only Democrat to file so far.

Two Republicans have filed: Jason Sheppard, a county commissioner and Temperance resident, and Irma Kubiske, an Ida Township resident and small-business owner. They will face off in the Aug. 5 GOP primary.

State Rep. Dale Zorn (R., Ida), is vacating the seat to run for the state Senate seat held by the term-limited Randy Richardville (R., Monroe).
