CLEVELAND — Browns Pro Bowl center Alex Mack’s football future could be decided in the next few days — or hours.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to sign Mack to a contract offer sheet today. Once the paperwork is filed, the Browns will have five days to match. Cleveland secured that right after placing a $10 million transition tag on Mack before free agency opened.
Based on reports that it’s a five-year, $42 million offer, the Browns would likely match it quickly.
The team entered free agency with re-signing Mack as a top priority. On Tuesday night, owner Jimmy Haslam said he was optimistic “Alex Mack will be a Cleveland Brown for a long time.”
Mack has played 4,998 consecutive snaps since he was drafted by Cleveland in 2009. He made his second Pro Bowl last season.
