The Tigers will open spring training Feb. 13, which means baseball season is coming. Here is a daily look at players with possible ties to the 2018 Mud Hens, whose home opener is set for April 12 vs. Pawtucket.

RHP Mark Montgomery

History: The Tigers signed Montgomery to a minor-league contract in November after he spent last season with Memphis, St. Louis’ Triple-A affiliate. With the Redbirds last season, he was 5-1 with five saves and a 2.43 ERA in 46 relief outings, striking out 73 in 66⅔ innings. While Montgomery never has pitched in the majors, he has spent four seasons with the Yankees’ Triple-A team in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (2013-16). In his minor-league career, Montgomery is 22-11 with 63 saves and a 2.35 ERA.

Future: Montgomery received an invitation to spring training, so he will compete for a job in the Tigers bullpen. If the 27-year-old does not claim a job there, he should be an important part of Toledo’s relief corps.
