Walleye get 4th consecutive win, take down Fuel

INDIANAPOLIS — The Toledo Walleye got goals from four different players Saturday in beating the Indy Fuel 4-2 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

Mike Embach, Christian Hilbrich, and Kyle Bonis each had a goal and an assist, while Patrick McCarron also had a goal for the Walleye (29-12-4), who have won four consecutive games and registered their 12th victory of the season on the road. Shane Berschbach had two assists in the game.

Kyle Bonis of the Toledo Walleye, shown in a game earlier this season, had a goal and an assist in Saturday's win over the Indy Fuel.

Josh Shalla had a goal and an assist, and Robin Press had a goal for Indy (19-21-3), which dropped to 11-10-0 this season at home.

McCarron got Toledo on the board first with his seventh goal of the year, thanks to assists by Berschbach and Bonis, just one minute into the game.

Hilbrich then pushed the Walleye to a 2-0 lead with his 16th goal of the season, as he was assisted by Connor Crisp and Embach at the 15:35 mark of the first period. It was Embach’s first point since being signed by the team Sunday.

Shalla registered his 10th of the campaign, unassisted, on the power play with 18 seconds left in the second that put the Fuel within 2-1 going into the third.

Embach then got his first goal since his stint overseas with Braehead Clan in Scotland with 4:18 remaining in regulation. Hilbrich assisted on the goal.

Press then converted another power play for Indy, this time on assists by Ryan Rupert and Shalla, at the 16:46 mark to again pull the Fuel within a goal.

However, Bonis put the finishing touches on the Toledo win with 41 seconds to go, thanks to an assist by Berschbach, on an empty-netter.

Pat Nagle improved to 20-4-3 on the season as he stopped 44 of 46 shots for the Walleye. Greg Dodds lost in his second start of the season, making 33 saves.

Toledo will play at Wheeling at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
