The Tigers will open spring training Feb. 13, which means baseball season is coming. Here is a daily look at players with possible ties to the 2018 Mud Hens, whose home opener is set for April 12 vs. Pawtucket.

RHP Gerson Moreno

History: The Tigers signed Moreno out of the Dominican Republic in 2012, and the 22-year-old right-hander has become one of the hardest throwers in the organization. He began last season at High Single-A Lakeland and posted a 1-0 record with eight saves and a 2.01 ERA in 21 appearances, striking out 30 in 22⅓ innings to earn a promotion to Double-A Erie. But Moreno struggled with the SeaWolves, going 0-3 with a 6.43 ERA in 20 appearances; he struck out 36 hitters but walked 17 in 28 innings.

Future: Moreno’s history is to pitch well at one level to earn a promotion, then struggle at the higher level before returning the next season and figuring things out. If Moreno, who begins this season as Detroit’s No. 27 prospect according to MiLB.com, continues that trend, he will find success at Erie to begin this season and earn a promotion to Toledo.
