■ Friday’s game: The Mud Hens barely avoided the shutout, but they were unable to avoid their fourth consecutive loss Friday. Louisville scored a pair of runs in the first inning and cruised to a 5-2 victory at Fifth Third Field. Toledo managed just eight hits and has now scored just nine runs in the last four contests.
■ Promotions: The Mud Hens will be wearing “419” jerseys in honor of “You Will Do Better in Toledo Night” at Fifth Third Field. Those jerseys will be available in a silent auction. … There will be post-game fireworks. … Area Boy Scouts will “camp” on the outfield grass after the contest.
■ Transactions: The Tigers announced that Jordan Zimmermann would be activated to start Saturday’s contest. Detroit will need to make a move to open up a roster spot for Zimmermann, but that move was not announced Friday.
■ Weather: While Saturday may be a partly cloudy day, rain is not expected to fall at Fifth Third Field. And it will be a warm day, with temperatures hovering around 90 degrees at first pitch.
■ Notes: The Mud Hens will look to snap their first four-game losing streak this season. ... Mike Gerber’s double in the first inning Friday extended his home hitting streak to 10 straight games, the longest active streak in the International League. ... Louisville’s Nick Senzel had two hits in the leadoff spot Friday, making him 14-for-28 in the six games he has batted leadoff for the Bats. Considered the No. 6 prospect in baseball, Senzel has had multiple hits in all six of those contests.
