The Bible illuminated

Ten prints from the Saint John's Bible are on display at All Saints Catholic Church, 628 Lime City Rd., Rossford, through Nov. 17. The reproductions are provided by the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library at Saint John's Abbey and University in Collegeville, Minn. The abbey and university commissioned the Saint John's Bible as the first complete handwritten and illuminated Bible—containing all 73 books--to be made since the invention of the printing press more than 500 years ago. Work on the seven-volume, about 1,150-page Saint John's Bible started in 1998 and finished in 2011; made in Wales, the original is at the abbey and university in Minnesota.

The prints can be seen 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and after Mass on Saturdays until 6:30 p.m. and Sundays until 1 p.m. A guided tour is offered Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and Nov. 3 at 1:30 p.m, which includes a BBC making-of documentary. A four-week course on “Seeing the Word” is offered Thursday nights (not including Oct. 31) from 7 to 8:30. And on Oct. 29 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Sister Mary Jane Sorosiak of Lourdes University offers a calligraphy class.

Park's centennial

Park Church celebrates its 100th anniversary Sunday with a worship service at 10 a.m., pictures from its century at 11, then a buffet lunch ($8, free for age 10 and under) at 11:30. Park is a congregational church, now part of the United Church of Christ. Its minister is the Rev. Edwin Heilman, who has been at Park since October 2007. Park began as a development by the Washington Congregational Church to form a church in Walbridge Park, at that time a new suburb of Toledo. Park is at 1456 Harvard Blvd.

Knights' Columbus Day

The Knights of Columbus get some Columbus Day association Sunday with a special Mass celebrated by Roman Catholic Diocese of Toledo Bishop Leonard Blair Sunday at 3 p.m. at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd. Presentation of the Colors is at 2:30 p.m., rosary at 2:40, then the Mass at 3. The Knights is a Roman Catholic men's organization that supports charity, unity, and fraternity, and provides insurance to its members.

Muslim compassion and unity

Judy Trautman, co-chair of the MultiFaith Council of Northwest Ohio and a leader in the movement to promote Toledo as a city of compassion, is the keynote speaker for the United Muslims Association of Toledo's 17th annual unity dinner, to take place at the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns, Sunday at 4 p.m. The dinner theme is “Compassion in Islam, Compassionate City of Toledo.”

The unity dinner is an occasion for government office holders, candidates, and others to meet members and leaders of the Muslim community and to learn about American Muslims—and, this year, to hear more about compassion.
