Franciscan Christmas

All are invited to celebrate “Christmas with St. Francis of Assisi” with their families at the Sisters of St. Francis' Regina Hall Conference Room, near Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel, at 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania, on Dec. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. RSVPs are requested by Monday to Sister Joan Jurski at jjurski@sistersosf.org or 419-824-3528. Francis of Assisi gathered the animals and villagers of Greccio, Italy, to re-create the first Christmas; in Regina Hall, the re-creation will be reenacted, the story of Francis will be told, and there will be singing and refreshments. A $5 donation is requested.

Franciscan Advent prayer will take place at the chapel at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 4, 11 and 18.

 

Getting Through

“GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays” is a free seminar, with a free meal and a free book about holiday survival, offered by First Presbyterian Church of Maumee Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the church's Fellowship Hall, 200 E. Broadway St., Maumee. The seminar is for people who have experienced separation, divorce, or the death of a loved one, and it will have suggestions from facilitators and videos from counselors who deal with divorce and grief. Illumination in Canton

Thursday is the opening day for an exhibition of the Saint John's Bible at the Canton Museum of Art, 1001 Market Ave. N., Canton. Ten prints from the Bible were on display in Rossford in October and earlier this month. The Canton showing has 68 original pages in 34 displays. This is the first touring exhibit to show pages from all seven volumes of the Saint John's Bible, the first complete handwritten and illuminated Bible—containing all 73 books—to be made since the invention of the printing press more than 500 years ago. The exhibition ends on March 2, 2014.

 

500 Manger Scenes

The Interfaith Nativity Festival features more than 500 creche scenes of the baby Jesus in the manger, accompanied by stable animals and being visited by the three wise men. The three-day festival takes place from Friday through Dec. 8, from 1 to 5 p.m. each day. On Dec. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m., complementary family photos are offered. There will also be musical performances each day, including the Toledo Diocesan Bell Choir at 7 p.m. Friday, Festive Flutes at 3 p.m. Dec. 7, and the Toledo Choral Society at 7 p.m. Dec. 7. Then at 8 p.m. Dec. 8, the Christmas Devotional from Salt Lake City will be shown. The festival takes place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Cultural Hall, 11050 Avenue Rd,.
