Toys “R” Us, Inc. will close its New Towne Square store in North Toledo by the end of July.
A company spokesman told The Blade on Friday that the store employs about 30 people, many of whom are part-time. She said employees had been notified of the closure and that the company is working to place them at other area locations.
Toys “R” Us also has a store on Monroe Street near Franklin Park Mall, and another on South Reynolds Road.
The company said the closure is not part of a larger store reduction. A spokesman told The Blade that the reason for the closure of the store is that the New Jersey retailer was in the process of selling the property. No further details were available about the future of the property, which is off Alexis Road, near the site of the former North Towne Square Mall.
Toys “R” Us opened the store in 1990.
