COLUMBUS — An Ohio lawmaker has introduced a bill to make “Hang On Sloopy” the state’s official rock song again.

The 1965 hit has been a crowd favorite for decades at Ohio State University games and some pro sports events around the state.

Ohio’s legislature recognized “Sloopy” as the state’s official rock song in 1985.

But that honor apparently wasn’t permanent.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Rep. Michael Stinziano of Columbus wants to make sure the tune remains Ohio’s state rock song permanently..

His father was one of two sponsors for the original resolution that recognized “Sloopy.”

Stinziano wants to add it to state law so that it lasts this time.
