CINCINNATI — Ohio’s governor urges new college graduates to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Republican Gov. John Kasich spoke Saturday at the University of Cincinnati December commencement ceremonies. UC president Santa Ono (OH’-noh) led the event.

Kasich says fame and power are fleeting, but that graduates can make their mark by engaging in changing the world.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Kasich told stories about his early life and people he has met.

More than 2,000 students received degrees.

Among those given honorary degrees was the Rev. Michael Graham, president of Xavier University. The reasons UC cites for Graham’s honor include his active efforts to better the community.

Later Saturday, men’s basketball rivals Xavier and Cincinnati were scheduled to play their annual “Crosstown Classic” game.
