Public tribute set Dec. 22 in Cincinnati for longtime Ohio House leader William Mallory

CINCINNATI — A public tribute to the life of longtime Ohio House majority leader William L. Mallory is planned Dec. 22 at the Cincinnati Museum Center that he long supported.

The first black state House majority leader and its longest-serving died last week at age 82. He was first elected to the House as a Democrat in 1966, serving 28 years.

Mallory worked to preserve Cincinnati’s Union Terminal and support its transformation into the museum center’s home. Mallory recalled shining shoes at the terminal as a youth and talking to travelers about the world outside Cincinnati.

A celebration of his life is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 22.

Mallory also is remembered for instilling the importance of public service in his six children, including former two-term Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory.
