Ohio pizza deliverer's body found at state park after reported abduction; suspect in custody

NASHPORT, Ohio — An Ohio man was arrested in the abduction and slaying of a pizza delivery driver whose body was found at a state park, authorities said Friday.

Adam Charles Burris, 32, has not been charged in the death of the delivery worker. But the Cambridge man is being held on a warrant for unrelated domestic violence charges, Guernsey County Sheriff Michael McCauley told reporters at a news conference. No attorney information was available for Burris.

McCauley said Burris is believed to have abducted and killed 26-year-old Kayla Thompson, who did not return from a delivery run on Thursday.

A deputy went to her last delivery address, where a woman told the officer that she had seen her boyfriend, Burris, in the delivery driver’s vehicle.

Authorities said they used Burris’ cellphone to track and stop him on Interstate 70, where he was taken into custody.

McCauley said Burris then led authorities to Thompson’s body near a boat ramp at Dillon State Park in neighboring Muskingum County, about 65 miles east of Columbus. The sheriff said without his help, officers would not have known to look there.

McCauley told reporters that the only known connection between Burris and Thompson, also of Cambridge, was that she brought him pizza.

An autopsy was being performed Friday to determine the cause of death.
