GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.— A western Michigan jury has convicted a 29-year-old woman of attempted murder for attacking her sleeping mother and stepfather with an axe and a knife.

A Kent County Circuit Court jury reached the verdict Thursday after less than an hour of deliberations.

Authorities say Amber Wilson told her mother and stepfather they were “going to die” before swinging an axe at them. The attack happened March 6, 2013, in the Grand Rapids suburb of Wyoming.

Police say the parents escaped and flagged down a patrol car. Their injuries weren’t life-threatening.

The Grand Rapids Press (http://bit.ly/1gQTSp7 ) reports that the now-64-year-old Pamela Wilson hugged Assistant Prosecutor Monica Janiskee after the verdict, saying “it’s not easy.”

Seventy-four-year-old Harold Clark says he and his wife “pray a lot” for his stepdaughter.
