AKRON — A national fraternity organization says it’s cooperating with an investigation into hazing allegations at a university in northeastern Ohio.

The national leaders of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity say they will help authorities at the University of Akron bring justice to anyone who may have violated the law.

Six members of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity in Akron have been charged with hazing a pledge by beating him with paddles.

University police say a 22-year-old man told investigators he went to a hospital after being beaten over multiple nights.

Police have filed misdemeanor assault and hazing charges against the six. Some of the suspects denied the man had been beaten and blamed another fraternity for spreading the allegations.

The six suspects turned themselves into police by Friday.
