LEXINGTON, Ohio — A sheriff’s office in north-central Ohio says a deputy responding to a domestic dispute fatally shot a man whose wife and mother had told authorities that he physically assaulted them.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office says Brian Garber was killed Sunday night at his parents’ home in Lexington, roughly 55 miles northeast of Columbus. The office says Garber’s wife had called 911 and reported that Garber had a gun and was at that home.

Authorities did not release details about exactly where and how the shooting occurred. They say Garber died at the scene. The Mansfield News Journal reports Garber was 28.

The shooting remains under investigation. The sheriff’s office says three deputies and a supervisor who were involved have been put on administrative leave in accordance with office policy.
