Ohio, Michigan gas prices down slightly from a week ago
3/24/2014COLUMBUS — Ohio gas prices are down to start the work week, following weeks of increases.
The cost for a gallon of regular gas in Ohio was averaging $3.51 in today’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. That’s about 14 cents lower than last Monday.
Today’s price is 14 cents higher than a month ago, but is considerably lower than the $3.72 per gallon that Ohioans were paying a year ago.
The national average Monday was about $3.53 per gallon, which is up a penny from last week, and 14 cents higher than a month ago.
Analysts say ongoing seasonal maintenance at refineries and concerns over simmering tensions in the Ukraine have been keeping prices up.
AAA Michigan says gasoline prices have fallen about 1 cent during the past week to a statewide average of about $3.72 per gallon.
The auto club says today the average is about 10 cents per gallon less than this time last year.
Of the cities it surveys, AAA Michigan says the cheapest price for self-serve unleaded fuel is in the Detroit area, where it’s about $3.67 a gallon. The highest average is in the Flint and Traverse City areas at about $3.78 a gallon.
Dearborn-based AAA Michigan surveys 2,800 Michigan gas stations daily.
