ALBANY, Ohio — Authorities have identified the pilot killed in a small plane crash across from the Ohio University airport in eastern Ohio as a 73-year-old Athens County man.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that Charles Wagner crashed the 1972 Bellanca Super Viking around 6:30 p.m. Saturday near the Route 50-Route 32 split in Albany.

The agency says Wagner had been en route to the airport.

The pilot was the only person in the four-seat plane.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
