COLUMBUS — Police say two people have been shot near a central Ohio elementary school, while a school district spokesman says no children were injured or involved in the shooting.

Columbus Police Sgt. Elrico Alli says a 14-year-old boy was injured and is in critical condition. A 20-year-old man also was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Neither has ties to the city schools.

The shooting occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on a street in front of Liberty Elementary School, near the time of its dismissal.

Columbus City Schools spokesman Andrew Marcelain said children were quickly taken back inside and the school was locked down for about an hour.

Police say they do not have any suspects in custody and are interviewing witnesses. Additional details were not immediately available.
