POWELL, Ohio — The Columbus Zoo says its $30 million, 43-acre “Heart of Africa” exhibit will open to guests on May 22.

The zoo says the long-awaited opening of its newest section will give visitors the feel of an African adventure as they encounter more than 130 animals, including zebras, lions, cheetahs and wildebeests. Guests will have opportunities to ride camels and feed giraffes.

The facility says parts of the exhibit highlight some of the zoo’s conservation efforts related to the African savanna animals in its care.

The zoo says the project was funded with a combination of public, corporate and private contributions.
