The Waterville Bridge over the Maumee River in Lucas and Wood counties should be replaced by a bridge using a parallel alignment, the Ohio Department of Transportation said today.
The state transportation agency announced it is moving forward with a design known as Alternative 2 as its preferred alternative along State Rt. 64, one that carries a $20 million price tag.
The new bridge, which is to be wider, would be located south/upstream of the existing structure, officials said.
The agency said the project will require it to build a roundabout for traffic at the State Rts. 64 and 65.
The next step is for engineers to finalize design, with construction in 2017, the agency said.
