4-year-old drowns at backyard birthday party in Columbus
6/1/2014COLUMBUS — A 4-year-old girl has drowned in a backyard pool during a birthday party in Columbus.
Columbus police say the family of Sinaia Moore found her at the bottom of the pool Saturday evening.
They tried reviving her until paramedics arrived and took the little girl to a local hospital.
She was pronounced dead soon after.
Police say the girl had been wearing a float vest while in the pool but that it was taken off at some point.
They say many of the dozens of partygoers were apparently distracting while singing “Happy Birthday” to a 1-year-old before adults spotting Sinaia at the bottom of the pool.
Family members told police they thought the girl had gone inside or was playing on a trampoline.
