COLUMBUS  — A 32-year-old man is standing trial in central Ohio in the September 2001 killing of a man hit by a bullet that tore through the wall of his house.

Gregory Crockett was charged last September after the Columbus police cold-case squad reopened the investigation into the death of 27-year-old Jason Satterwhite. He was hit in the head with a bullet that came through the wall of his house on the city’s east side.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Crockett turned himself in during the week of the slaying after being implicated, but prosecutors say they didn’t have enough evidence to charge him at the time.

Witnesses say Crockett fired the shot while partying with friends in an apartment complex down the street. He’s charged with murder and involuntary manslaughter.
