COLUMBUS  — Mourners who gathered in Columbus to remember a brother and sister fatally stabbed in Israel say the children lived their lives with sensitivity and kindness.

The children — 10-year-old Sara Levy and her 11-year-old brother, Yishai — were killed last week while visiting their father, who police say has confessed to the crime.

They lived with their mother in Columbus, where friends and family gathered for their funeral on Wednesday.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Rabbi Avi Goldstein recalled Sara as a “special, vivacious, intuitive girl” who was wise beyond her years. He called Yishai a boy with a beautiful smile whose best friend was always “the friend that needed him most.”

Their parents were involved in what police called a complicated divorce.
