Ohio's July unemployment rate rises to 5.7 percent

COLUMBUS — Ohio’s unemployment rate was 5.7 percent in July, up from 5.5 percent in May and June.

The rates in May and June were the lowest since before the Great Recession.

Last year, the state‘‍s unemployment rate in July was 7.5 percent.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services released last month’s job figures today.

The state’s unemployment rate remained below the nation’s jobless rate, which was 6.2 percent for July.

Ohio’s nonfarm wage and salary employment decreased 12,400 over the last month. And the number of unemployed workers in Ohio in July rose by 7,000 — from 316,000 in June to 323,000 in July.

The data is seasonally adjusted.
