BEREA, Ohio — The Ohio Turnpike is working to beef up wireless coverage along the 241-mile toll road through a new partnership with Diamond Communications.

In a deal struck last month, the Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission granted Diamond exclusive rights to market and manage its communication towers, buildings, light poles and other structures for the location of wireless carrier equipment.

The agreement allows the Short Hills, New Jersey-based company to market commission-owned real estate holdings as potential locations for new wireless towers to be built on Turnpike property and to manage the commission’s existing ground leases and tower agreements.

Executive Director Randy Cole said an increase in wireless coverage will mean Turnpike customers can take advantage of the growth of wireless carriers, data usage, new telecommunication sites and next-generation wireless apps.
