Facebook will join Standard & Poor’s 500

NEW YORK — Facebook Inc. shares jumped $2.45, or 5 percent, to $51.83 Thursday after it was announced the stock would be added to the Standard & Poor's 500 stock index. Shares of Facebook have surged 86 percent this year.

Facebook will replace Teradyne Inc., effective at the end of the trading day today.

Also joining the S&P 500 will be Alliance Data Systems and Mohawk Industries. They will replace JDS Uniphase and Abercrombie & Fitch Co.
