DETROIT — The Motor City’s top brass will be on hand for an exhibition game between the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals.

A Detroit Symphony Orchestra brass quintet will play the national anthem today before the game at Joker Marchant Stadium, the Tigers’ winter home in Lakeland, Fla.

The ensemble consists of trumpeters Hunter Eberly and Bill Lucas, trombonist Randy Hawes, tubist Dennis Nulty and Dave Everson on horn.

Leading the group will be orchestra Music Director Leonard Slatkin. He also served as director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and was a regular on opening day in that city. He’s also thrown the ceremonial first pitch for the Tigers.

As for where his loyalties lie, he said, “it would be inappropriate for me to divulge this before game time.”
