Schools to crack the final cut in the recruitment of Orlando basketball prospect Stuckey Mosley ranged from up and down the East Coast to the Midwest to Texas.

Geography mattered little. Relationships were the determining factor, and Mosley found them at the University of Toledo.

Mosley, a 6-foot-3 combo guard, is the Rockets’ first commitment in the 2014 class.

"My relationship with the coaches was the main thing," said the 180-pound Mosley. "I saw how they dealt with the players and how the players dealt with them. It’s a program on the rise and I want to be a part of it."

Mosley whittled 15 Division I offers to finalists Toledo, Florida Atlantic, Creighton, Rice, Boston College, and Columbia. He visited Toledo’s campus two weekends ago and took in the football team’s win over Eastern Washington. Forward J.D. Weatherspoon hosted Mosley, and assistant coach Jordan Mincy did most of the recruiting legwork.

Mosley, who goes by his middle name, Stuckey, rather than his first name, Cuyler, believes shooting is his greatest skill.

"I saw a couple of practices and I think I’ll fit in well," said Mosley, a standout quarterback at Timber Creek High. "I think I have an opportunity to play early, but a lot of that will be determined when I get up there."

Coach Tod Kowalczyk still has two scholarships to use and will likely try to secure a point guard before the early signing period begins Nov. 13.

Toledo reportedly has offered Baltimore point guard Kamau Stokes, who visited campus the same weekend as Mosley.
