Walleye suffer 4th straight loss

The Toledo Walleye were badly outshot tonight and suffered their fourth straight loss.

Reading, the defending ECHL champions, finished with a 39-17 edge in shots on goal. Reading knocked off Toledo 4-1 before a sellout crowd of 8,200 at the Huntington Center.

The Royals led 1-0 late in the second period when they scored two goals just 1:32 apart to seize a three-goal cushion.

The Walleye (12-22-3) fell a full 20 points behind Reading (23-13-1) in the Eastern Conference.

Toledo got on the board 4:13 into the third on Aaron Bogosian's goal. Bogosian slapped the puck out of midair. C.J. Chartrain and Kevin Lynch got the assists on Bogosian's second goal of the season.

As the capacity crowd got the wave going, Reading made it 2-0 as Julien Cayer scored with 2:38 left in the second period.

The Royals scored again just 1:32 later as T.J. Shyner tipped a shot past Walleye goalie Mac Carruth to make it 3-0.

Carruth (4-9-0) made his fourth straight start but lost his seventh straight.

The Royals' Ryan Cruthers got an empty net, shorthanded goal with 27 seconds left.

Toledo was playing without four of its top six scorers, including their three leading scorers due to call ups to the American Hockey League.

Toledo was outshot 14-4 in the first and 17-5 in the second..

The Walleye wrap up a three game weekend homestand on Sunday against Greenville.
