KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A large shot advantage did nothing for the Walleye in a 5-2 loss at Kalamazoo on Friday.

Despite outshooting the Wings 38-21 — including 16-4 in the third period — the Walleye (16-27-3) could only muster one even-strength and one power-play goal against goaltender Joel Martin of Kalamazoo.

The win pushes the Wings (27-17-4) four points in front of Fort Wayne in the North Division. The loss was Toledo's third in a row.

Jared Coreau stopped 16 shots for Toledo in the loss, giving up two goals in the first on eight shots and two more in the second on nine attempts. Travis Novak scored early in the second period and assisted on Alden Hirschfeld's extra-man marker with about five minutes left in the game.

Matt Caria led Kalamazoo with two goals, while Yanniock Velleuz and David Pacan each added a goal and an assist.
