Sauder spotlights art of woodcarving

The Sauder Village Woodcarver's Show & Sale promises to be a weekend filled with artistry and family fun. Artists and vendors will be at Founder's Hall for the event, which will feature skilled carvers showcasing their work. Rick Jensen, internationally known woodcarver instructor, will teach a workshop. The show will include vendor tables with carving supplies, demonstrations, and music by Wes Linenkugal. On Saturday there will be demonstrations of how the early settlers prepared for winter with hog butchering and other food preservation techniques. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the show and demonstrations is $15 for adults and $8 for children ages 6 to 16. ■ Napoleon hosts the Trunk & Treat Pumpkin Festival from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Napoleon Civic Center. Highlights will include pumpkin painting and carving demonstrations, the great pumpkin drop, a car show, and children's inflatables. Guests are encouraged to wear costumes. Other events include a 5K run at 9 a.m., horse-drawn wagon rides from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at 11 a.m., and trick-or-treating from 3 to 5 p.m. Historic walking tours are scheduled at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m. Entertainers include Anna Yoder, Joe & Shuey, the Henry County Chorale, Melissa Maassel, and the Napoleon High School band, cheerleaders, and jazz choir. ■ Tejano Fest, presented by Urban Art Entertainment, will be Friday at Eastside Cantina. The concert will feature folk and popular music from several Tejano music artists. Event headliners are Tejano Highway 281, Hugo Guerrero, and Selena Ilyssa Sanez. Admission is $20 at the door. Eastside Cantina is at 125 Oak St. Information: 419-917-8236.
