SAO PAULO — The construction firm building the Arena da Amazonia stadium which will host World Cup games in the jungle city of Manaus says a worker fell to his death Saturday from the stadium’s roof structure.

The Andrade Gutierrez company says Marcleudo Ferreira fell some 115 feet.

The Local Organizing Committee of the World Cup says work on the stadium was halted for a period of mourning and will resume on Sunday.

Last month, two construction workers were killed when a crane collapsed as it was hoisting a 500-ton piece of roofing at the Sao Paulo stadium that’s hosting the opening match of the World Cup. The G1 news portal said another worker fell to his death in the same Manaus stadium in May and a worker died in 2012 after falling from a stadium in Brasilia.
