Bowling Green hosts animal-themed exhibit

  • More than 30 artists are featured in a Bowling Green animal-themed exhibition hosted by the city’s Arts Council and Four Corners Center, 130 S. Main St.

    Artists 4 Animals 5 opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday. The artists are as young as kindergarten-aged through adult.

    The free show includes artwork of dogs and cats at the Wood County Humane Society by Eastwood High School students. Winners in the show will be featured on notecards that will be available for sale at the opening reception and at various Bowling Green venues. Proceeds will benefit the humane society and the arts council.

    ■ Main Art-ery has organized a solo exhibition of the work of local artist Christine Deemer that runs through Jan. 5.

    Hot Wax, Cool Waters: Encaustic Paintings by Christine Deemer is housed at the Perrysburg Municipal Building, 207 W. Indiana Ave., and will be accessible for view from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

    Deemer’s work focuses on the art of ocean waves through encaustic painting, also called hot wax painting.

    ■ The oldest women’s art organization, the Athena Art Society, is hosting its juried art exhibition at the Center for Visual Arts gallery at the University of Toledo venue, 620 Art Museum Drive (next to the Toledo Museum of Art).

    The show opens Monday, and an artist reception will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 16. It will remain on display through Dec. 7.

    ■ More than 110 artists and craftsmen will offer their creations Saturday at what has become one of the biggest annual local artist events in Toledo.

    Maker’s Mart Holiday Edition 2017 Indie Craft Fair is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Handmade Toledo, 1717 Adams St.

    Admission to the juried event is $1. In addition to vendors selling customized art pieces, jewelry, and other handcrafted or homemade items, visitors will also be able to eat and drink at one of the many local food trucks and local participating businesses.

    ■ The Frederick Douglass Community Association is the venue for an art show featuring 10 local artists that was organized by Toledo Kwanzaa House. The one-night event is 5-8 p.m. Friday.

    Featured artists are: Ayeesha Anbullah, Gutta Dave, Yusef Davis, Brain Dunn, Diane Gordon, Alice Grace, Kenneth Peterson, Yvonne Robinson, Harry Terrell, and Frank Wright.

    The event is free.

    ■ The Henry County Arts Council is hosting a juried exhibition featuring work of local and regional artists.

    The show is free and will be open through Dec. 5 at the Art & Armory Events Center, 127 E. Clinton St., Napoleon.
