Chinese students set for cultural performance

    A Chinese cultural exchange Troupe from Yanshan University performs at three local universities, beginning Monday at Bowling Green State University.

    • As a part of a cultural exchange, a group of five faculty members and eight students from Yanshan University in China will perform at BGSU and other northwest Ohio universities beginning this week.

    The performance troupe will present “Whispering Dreams of a Spring Breeze,” featuring traditional Chinese instruments and demonstrating dance, music, and martial arts. Fourteen presentations are included in the performance with themes of ancient charm, diversified ethnicity, and folk arts.

    The visit is part of a “Sister City” relationship between Toledo and Qinhuangdao, China, which are both named a “Glass City.” The twinning happened in 1985.

    The BGSU performance is slated for 7:30 p.m. Monday in Kobacker Hall, Moore Musical Arts Center at BGSU. Tickets $5 are available at 419-372-2741 or at the door. Additional performances at other universities include 7 p.m. March 15 at Doermann Theatre, University of Toledo, 7 p.m. March 19 at the Franciscan Center, Lourdes University.

    ■ As a part of the continuing North Star Festival, a free open rehearsal of the Toledo Symphony in preparation for the upcoming Romance and Spirituals concert will take place at 1:15 p.m. Sunday at the Main Library of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, 325 N.     ■ Detroit-based Rela Percussion Ensemble is the next performance on the Accent on the Arts! concert series. Drawing from classical percussion techniques, the ensemble performs music from around the world.
