Several Toledo area art events on tap Friday

Several art-related events take place in the area Friday. Here's a rundown of what's going on:

•Opening reception for the new gallery in Sam B's Restaurant will be 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 163 South Main St. in Bowling Green. In a partnership with Prizm Creative Community, a non-profit that promotes artists, the eatery will display the work of regional artists. Information: prizm@bex.net.

•Arturo Rodriguez will speak about his work and meet guests at a 7 p.m. reception in the Terhune Gallery at the Center for fine and Performing Arts at Owens Community College. His paintings, prints, and mixed media pieces are imbued with a Cuban aesthetic. The show continues through Oct. 23. Featured in the Gallery Outside is the art of Marina Terauds.

•La Galera de las Americas opens Art of the Puerto Rican Experience with a 5 to 9 p.m. meet-the-artists reception. Olga Enid Reyes of Utuado, P.R., paints on canvas as well as surfaces of objects such as feathers and gourds. Using earth tones, Miguel ngel Gzman, a native of Utuado, captures images of indigenous peoples, both historic and contemporary.

•Tutankhamun's Footwear will be discussed at a 7:30 p.m. slide show in the Little Theater of the Toledo Museum of Art. The speaker, archaeologist Andre Veldmeijer of Amsterdam, is the author of a new book, Tutankhamun's Footwear: Studies of Ancient Egyptian Footwear.

Space 237 celebrates its 10th anniversary with Allegories, an exhibit by six artists as visual story tellers, opening with a 6 to 10 p.m. reception Oct. 15.

The show continues through Jan. 8. Art in several media will be displayed on all four floors in this 19th century building at 237 North Michigan St. Information: 419-255-5117 and space237.com.

All Creatures Great or Small is the theme of this month's show at the Toledo Artists' Club, through Oct. 29. It includes 54 pieces by 34 artists. The club is at Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Drive. Information: 419-531-4079.

Elizabeth Jordan will teach a workshop about drawing portraits of pets and people, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and another from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Oct. 20, in the Way Library, 101 East Indiana Ave. in Perrysburg. There is a fee. Information: 419-893-0414 and myprizm.com.

A mini-retrospective of Roberta Paul's work is in the Klemm Gallery at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Mich. through Nov. 5. She'll speak at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Rueckert Auditorium, and again at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the gallery. Her show, In Search of Lost Time, includes clock paintings, based on tiny drawings of clocks her father made after he was diagnosed with a progressive neurological disorder.
