UT exhibit to showcase new faculty

‘Birch Todd,' a photograph by Mitch Labuda, is among the works in Photography: Experience through the Lens at the Perrysburg Municipal Building and Courthouse. The exhibit, which features the works of seven local artists, will be on display through mid-January.

A reception for a trio of new faculty showing their work in the University of Toledo's Center for the Visual Arts will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Barry Whittaker, assistant professor of new media design practices, investigates aspects of language and miscommunication in a range of media and collaborations. Seder Burns teaches digital art and photography, and finds inspiration in good weather and bad science fiction. Ben Pond teaches drawing and runs the CVA Gallery. He searches for beauty in the barrage of film, television, and digital media. The NOW Exhibit: Reclaiming Toledo will continue through Dec. 11.

Shared Lives Studio and Gallery, 20 N. St. Clair St. will celebrate its first anniversary with an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Among the goods are ornaments, jewelry, recycled-glass art, clocks, woven pieces, prints, stationery, mugs, and wall art. Adults who have developmental disabilities create, exhibit, and sell art in the studio, a division of Lott Industries Inc. Samples of products and information is at sharedlivesstudio.com.

A grand opening for the new location of Copper Moon Studio Gallery & Gifts will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Stacy Owen, glass artist, owns the shop at 8007 Airport Hwy., Holland, one mile west of Holloway Road. Glass, jewelry, photographs, and paintings will be sold, and ornament-making classes for children and adults will begin Nov. 26. Photography: Experience through the Lens, featuring the work of seven artists, is on view in two locations in the Perrysburg Municipal Building and Courthouse, 201 W. Indiana Ave. through mid-January. Tim Hacker and David Schwan's images are in the Courthouse portion of the facility, and photographs by Lee Fearnside, Nadine Saylor, Marti Huepenbecker, Mitch Labuda and Jean Schoen are in the Municipal Building. The exhibit is organized by the Perrysburg Area Arts Council.

Denali The Dog, featured in 30 holiday and greeting card styles, will meet and greet his fans 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday in the American Gallery, 6600 Sylvania Ave., in Sylvania. Denali's owner/agent/costumer is freelance photographer Madalyn Ruggiero of Maumee, who doesn't retouch the images she takes of him. Her greeting cards will be for sale in the gallery; other local stores that carry the cards are listed at denalithedog.com.

An opaque glass gazelle is the 2011 ornament for the Toledo Museum of Art. It was designed by local artist Gideon Rockwood and made in the Glass Pavilion's hot shop. Cost: $35 in the Museum Store through January. Proceeds support the museum. Information: tmastore.org.

Call for artists: The 3-D Exhibit of the Findlay Art League will open Jan. 13 through Feb. 7. Invited are sculptors, potters, textile artists, jewelers, wood carvers, paper manipulators, and metal-workers. Entries must have been created within the last four years, must not exceed 60 inches in any direction, and must not have been exhibited in a previous FAL show. Prospectus is at findlayartleague.com.
