Sauder Village, Angelwood Gallery feature fiber art

Fabulous Fibers opens with a 6 to 8 p.m. reception tonight and continues through July 21 at Angelwood Gallery in Grand Rapids, Ohio. It includes wearable art, sculptures, felt, and mixed-media pieces made by people whose work was accepted into the recent fiber577 show at the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg. Another fiber event will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Sauder Village. At Focus on Fiber Arts, people will demonstrate spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting, tatting, and dying. Their products will be displayed as will looms and spinning wheels, and hands-on activities will be offered. Fiber-arts supplies and hand-made goods will be sold. Several artists have work in the new exhibit, Between Blisters & Blue Skies, at Launch Pad Cooperative. The theme is an examination of cheerfulness, playfulness, and achievement, contrasted with gloom, despair, and affliction. Showing art are Carrie Day, Erin Garber-Pearson, Julia LaBay, Joe Levickas, Jefferson Nelson, Arturo Rodriguez, and Casey Jex Smith. Opening reception will be 6 to 9 p.m. June 28 in the gallery at 911 Jefferson Ave. It will be open during Art Walks, 6 to 9 p.m. July 11 and Aug. 8, and by appointment.

Ever wanted to create a bronze sculpture? Emmanuel Enriquez will teach the process in a two-week class, for which eight students will be accepted, July 8-11 and 15-19. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the class will be held at Common Space Art Studios, 1700 N. Reynolds Rd. Fee: $375. Enriquez has sculptures at Fifth Third Field (Who’s Up) and Toledo Botanical Garden (Empathy). The class is organized by Prizm Creative Community. Registration deadline is June 30. Classes for children, teens, and adults are offered at Art Supply Depot, 29 S. St. Clair St., including a noon to 2 p.m. June 29 monoprint workshop ($25) for children in grades 4 through 8 that includes mixing color, block-printing inks, and learning about a method of making prints. Teacher will be Stacey Grasso.Claudia Cooper will show how to make tiny masterpieces such as artist trading cards, Rolodex cards, and luggage tags at a 2 to 4 p.m. session on Sunday; the fee is $15. Prizm Creative Community will host a field trip that includes a docent-led tour of the Mazza Museum of International Art from Picture Books at the University of Findlay. People should meet at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday in the Riverplace/Churchill’s parking lot on State Rt. 25 (Dixie Highway) outside the Subway in Perrysburg. Maps will be distributed and people can carpool. Stops will be made in Findlay for lunch and ice cream.
