  • Haas Bakery is a Toledo-area institution, a long-time family-owned establishment offering sweet treats of all kinds. It seemed a perfect place to go in search of Thrifty Thursday deals costing only $5 or less per person. And, indeed, it was.

They’re most famous for their fresh doughnuts, which cost $1.10 apiece. But there’s a vast array of other deliciousness awaiting customers, from simple, old-fashioned ginger or peanut butter cookies for 65 cents apiece to crispy, cinnamony elephant ears (yes, that fair favorite) for $1.49. Thickly frosted cinnamon rolls cost $1.25, while pecan rolls with a sprinkling of nuts are $1.99.

Huge slabs of frosted chocolate or white cake, cheerfully topped with sprinkles, are the size of a box of Pop Tarts. They’re easily shared, if you’re feeling generous instead of greedy, and cost $4.50. Grapefruit-sized cream puffs are another gleefully sublime option at only $2.99.

So when you need a quick fix of something sweet, you know where the frugal finds are waiting for you: Haas Bakery.
