University of Toledo pianist Illana Kennell Bowling has been named Ohio's 2005 Nationally Certified Teacher of Music by the Ohio Music Teachers Association.

Bowling Green State University will host the 48th annual Band Music Reading and Directors Clinic at the Moore Musical Arts Center on the Bowling Green campus with various events Jan. 19 -21. There will be a concert by the BGSU Symphonic Band with special guest Jamie Bernstein, daughter of famed conductor and musician Leonard Bernstein, at 8 p.m. Jan. 20. Tickets are $8 and $5 for seniors and students. Also, a free concert by the University Concert Band at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 21, followed by a free concert by the High School Honors Band at 3:30 p.m. Also in Bryan Recital Hall of the Musical Arts Center, bassoonist Katherine Oliver will present a free BGSU Faculty Arts Series concert at 8 p.m. on Jan. 25. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Stoney Creek High School Chorus present "The Music of the 'Star Wars' Saga," at 10:45 a.m. and 8 p.m. Jan. 19, at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 20 and Jan. 21, and 3 p.m. Jan. 22, in Orchestra Hall of the Max M. Also in the theater, young Wolfgang Amedeus Mozart visits Ann Arbor at 4 p.m. on Jan. 22, as part of his world tour in "Mozart Comes to Ann Arbor!," a family concert featuring actors and the orchestra.
