Terrace slates swing, Tejano dance parties

8/30/2007

Visitors to Centennial Terrace in Sylvania Township should bring their dancing shoes this weekend because they're going to need them for performances by swing and Tejano bands.

First, Swingmania will be performing under the stars Saturday as part of a Big Swingin' Dance Party. The group, which loves to play big band swing music - everything from Benny Goodman's "Sing Sing Sing" to Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" - will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. and groove until 11:30 p.m.

Vocalist Danny Welch will be performing the hits of Bobby Darin as well as Sinatra, and the Swingmania four-man trumpet section will give a salute to legendary bandleader Harry James.

Tickets are $8. Information: 419-882-1500.

Then on Sunday, the site will host the fourth annual Labor Day Weekend Texas Style. A number of Texas bands will be performing, including Los Hermanos Cortez. Also playing will be Ambixion and Jessy Serrata and the New Wave Band.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with the music starting an hour later and the fun continuing until midnight. Last year's event drew 1,600 people, according to Mark Garcia, one of the promoters.

Tickets are $15 at the door, $12.50 in advance from La Mexicana in Toledo and Lindsey Village Market in Lindsey, Ohio. Children under 12 are free as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Information: 419-283-1495.
